Biography
Vincent Martin holds a faculty appointment as a Professor of Exercice Physiology in the Faculty of Sports Science (Clermont Auvergne University, Clermont-Ferrand, France) since 2010. He is the former director of the AME2P lab at the Faculty of Sports Science of Clermont-Ferrand (2018-2020) and junior fellow of the Institut Universitaire de France (2018-2023).
Vincent has an MSc and PhD in Sports Science (Exercise Physiology specialization) from the University of Burgundy (Dijon, France, 2004, under the supervision of Prof Guillaume Millet). He has worked as a research assistant at the University of Aix-Marseille (France, 2004-2005), as a post-doctoral researcher at the Neuromuscular Research Center of the University of Jyväskylä (Finland, 2005-2006), and as an assistant professor at the University of Evry Val d’Essonne (France, 2006-2010).
His research program is in the area of neuromucular physiology and predominantly focuses on the etiology of neuromuscular fatigue and the determinants of strength production in the context of sport (exercise-induced fatigue), typical growth and health (adult and childhood obesity). In June 2022, Vincent had published 1 book, 11 book chapters and 61 papers in international journals with peer review (H-index = 25). He has supervised 8 doctoral fellows and 52 Graduate students.
Main results of the work we have done together
- Eccentric-induced fatigue is mainly of central origin.
- The recovery of exercise-induced fatigue and damage is not quicker with active, passive or electrostimulation modalities.
- Ultra-endurance running performance is mainly limited by central factors, that develop progressively over time.
- Women present particularities regarding the etiology of neuromuscular fatigue after ultra-endurance races.
- Electrical stimulation modalities can be adapted to evaluate neuromuscular function is sensitive populations such as patients.
